Sevilla Coach Addresses Iheanacho’s Injury Amid EPL Transfer Rumors

Sevilla head coach Garcia Pimienta has clarified the status of Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho amid swirling Premier League transfer rumors.

Iheanacho, who joined Sevilla on a free transfer last summer, has struggled to find his footing with the Spanish club. The 28-year-old attacker has been sidelined for the past two weeks due to injury, which has fueled speculation about a possible January exit.

The Super Eagles forward was signed to bolster Sevilla’s attack but has had limited opportunities to showcase his skills in La Liga. This season, Iheanacho has featured in nine league matches, mostly as a substitute, and is yet to score. However, he has shown glimpses of his quality in the Copa del Rey, netting three goals against lower-tier opponents.

Injury Sparks Transfer Speculations

Iheanacho’s recent absence from training sessions added fuel to rumors that Sevilla might be looking to part ways with the forward. Reports suggested that English Premier League sides Ipswich Town and Wolverhampton Wanderers were keen on securing his services during the January transfer window.

Addressing the speculation, Pimienta provided an update ahead of Sevilla’s upcoming fixture against Valencia.

“Kelechi (Iheanacho) has some discomfort, the same as last week. He should be back with the group soon,” Pimienta told journalists.
