Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) head coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, has admitted that his team suffered the consequences of failing to hold onto their lead after a frustrating 2-2 draw against El-Kanemi Warriors on Matchday 31 of the NPFL 2024 season.
The Oluyole Warriors were on course for a crucial away victory in Maiduguri, taking a 2-0 lead before allowing the hosts to stage a comeback and snatch a point. Ogunbote expressed disappointment over his team’s inability to see out the game.
“We give glory to God for the away point, but honestly, this feels like two points dropped. We didn’t manage the lead well, and we paid the price for it,” Ogunbote stated post-match.
No Excuses as Ogunbote Demands Improvement
Despite suggestions that Maiduguri’s weather conditions may have played a role in 3SC’s struggles, Ogunbote dismissed any such claims.
“The second half was better, and it wasn’t about the weather. The issue was our game management. We should have done better to keep our lead,” he explained.

3SC’s Top-Four Hopes Under Threat?
The dropped points could have serious implications for 3SC’s ambitions this season. With just seven matches left to play, every result will be crucial in their push for a strong league finish.
“We have seven games left to determine our fate. We must stay focused and get the needed results,” Ogunbote added.
With pressure mounting, the Ibadan-based side must regroup quickly as they prepare for their next fixture. Any further slip-ups could derail their top-four aspirations and continental qualification hopes.
