Luke Shaw: Stats, Height, Injury, Journey from Southampton to United

Manchester United Injury Update: Amorim Opens Up on Shaw’s Fitness Struggles.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has acknowledged that Luke Shaw’s ongoing injury woes remain “complicated,” with uncertainty surrounding the left-back’s return to action.

Luke Shaw, who has been limited to just three appearances for Manchester United this season, has struggled with persistent muscle problems. His latest setback has sidelined him since early December, adding to his injury-plagued campaign.

Although the 29-year-old initially provided a boost by returning to training recently, he has suffered another setback, delaying his comeback. At the earliest, he is now expected to resume training next week, but there is no definitive timeline for his return.

Amorim revealed that Shaw’s current concern is “a small issue different from the initial injury,” making it even more difficult to predict when he will be match-ready.

Amorim on Shaw’s Injury Struggles

Speaking to reporters, Amorim admitted that the situation is delicate:

“Yeah, it’s hard. It’s hard to give you a time, because he has a small issue different from the injury,” Amorim explained.

“Then he has to stop. Then we have to return a little bit to work on fitness, while also being mindful of the previous injury. So, it’s a complicated moment to set a clear timeline. I don’t want any pressure on the medical team or on Luke. We just need him to be fully fit to help the team.”

Manchester United’s Left-Back Dilemma

Since joining the club from Southampton in 2014, Shaw has made 278 appearances for Manchester United, scoring four goals and providing 28 assists. However, his injury record has been a concern, with only 14 Premier League appearances to his name since the start of last season.

To address their left-back shortage, United signed 20-year-old Patrick Dorgu during the January transfer window. Dorgu is expected to play a key role in the squad, particularly with Tyrell Malacia leaving on loan to PSV Eindhoven and Lisandro Martínez ruled out for the rest of the season due to a serious knee injury.

Amorim Reflects on Manchester United’s Challenges

Beyond Shaw’s injury woes, Amorim admitted that Manchester United’s turbulent season has been mentally taxing.

“It’s really hard, especially considering the way we are sometimes losing,” he confessed.

“I understand that we’ve had a packed schedule with little time for training, but even under those circumstances, we should be performing better.”

Amorim also revealed that the pressure of managing United has affected his ability to sleep, as he constantly searches for solutions to improve the team’s form.

“When you’re a coach, you want to win every game. If you’re used to that winning feeling, coping with setbacks becomes even harder. Of course, there are tough moments—it’s difficult to sleep sometimes,” he admitted.

“One thing I’ve learned is that, whether in good or bad moments, my approach remains the same. My goal is clear: I make decisions solely to help the team win. In football, when you don’t win, you face problems, but we need to survive this moment and turn things around.”
