Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo has expressed frustration with the current state of his squad, citing concerns about lacking options in key positions.
Despite signing three major players, including Jair Cunha, Dan Ndoye, and Igor Jesus, Nuno believes the team needs further reinforcement.
Squad Gaps
In his pre-match press conference ahead of facing Brentford, Nuno highlighted the need for additional players to address gaps in the squad.
“We’re concerned, especially about the game on Sunday,” he said.
“We need players, particularly in goalkeeping, full-backs, midfielders, and maybe another striker.”
Specific Needs
Nuno specified the areas where Forest need improvement, including:
Goalkeeper options
Full-backs, particularly left-back following Harry Toffolo’s departure
Central midfielders, with Danilo’s absence a concern
Wingers, to provide more options
Additional strikers, to manage the workload and provide depthC
Competition and Squad Depth
Nuno emphasized the importance of having a strong squad to compete in the Premier League and Europa League.
“We want to have as many options as possible, game-by-game,” he said.
“The Europa League will come after, and for sure it will be better, but for now, these games until that happens are a major concern.”
Justified Concerns?
Given the recent transfers, with four arrivals and five departures, Nuno’s concerns seem justified.
The lack of a left-back and central midfielder to replace key players like Harry Toffolo and Danilo is a notable issue.
While squad depth isn’t a major concern in the short term, Nuno prefers to have players who will contribute to the team rather than those who might leave on loan.
Upcoming Fixtures
Forest face Brentford, Crystal Palace, and West Ham United in the next few weeks.
Nuno will be keen to assess his squad’s strength and depth during these matches and address any gaps before the Europa League fixtures begin.
