Man United Confirms Double Injury Blow After Rangers’ Match
Man United Injury News: Red Devils Face Double Blow After Rangers Match Ahead of Fulham’s Premier League Clash.
Manchester United’s Europa League victory against Rangers came with a heavy price, as head coach Ruben Amorim confirmed that key defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro are injury concerns. Both players suffered setbacks during Thursday’s 2-1 win at Old Trafford, leaving their availability for Sunday’s Premier League match against Fulham in serious doubt.
Key Injuries Against Rangers
Matthijs De Ligt was replaced at halftime due to discomfort in his leg, with Harry Maguire stepping in to fill the void. Yoro, on the other hand, exited early in the second half, forcing Diogo Dalot to shift into a makeshift back-three role as Tyrell Malacia was introduced.
The Red Devils secured a narrow victory with Bruno Fernandes scoring a late winner after Cyriel Dessers equalized for Rangers. However, the injuries to De Ligt and Yoro cast a shadow over the triumph.
Ruben Amorim’s Post-Match Comments
Following the game, Amorim addressed the injuries, emphasizing the need for caution:
“Matthijs de Ligt felt something in his leg, as did Leny Yoro. We can’t risk anything. I know we have to win, but we have to show the players that everybody matters,” Amorim told TNT Sports.
The Portuguese manager also highlighted the team’s improvement in possession:
“We did well. We played better with the ball. I think we started well and then lost control due to some bad decisions, but the lads recovered well. We need to be more clinical in key moments, which can help us a lot moving forward.”
Fulham Clash in Doubt for De Ligt and Yoro
Both De Ligt and Yoro are set to undergo medical evaluations to determine their fitness ahead of the crucial Premier League clash at Craven Cottage. If ruled out, Amorim may be forced to field a patched-up defense featuring Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, and Dalot. Jonny Evans, another defensive option, is also sidelined, further complicating the situation.
Man United’s Recent Form
The win against Rangers propelled United to fourth place in the Europa League group standings with 15 points from seven matches, strengthening their chances of an automatic knockout-stage qualification. However, their Premier League campaign remains a priority, and the potential absence of two key defenders could hinder their efforts against Fulham.

Defensive Depth Will Be Tested
Amorim’s tactical flexibility will be critical as injuries continue to deplete United’s backline. With Evans unavailable and now De Ligt and Yoro in doubt, the responsibility may fall heavily on Maguire and Martinez to anchor the defense. Dalot, usually a full-back, could again play a more central role if necessary.
Focus on Performance and Recovery
Despite the injury setbacks, Amorim stressed the importance of maintaining focus and building on recent performances:
“We regrouped from the last game. The opponent today wasn’t as fast, and you can see our connections improving. But we have to keep pushing and find solutions for moments like these.”
What’s Next for Manchester United?
United will face Fulham on Sunday night in a match that could further solidify their position in the Premier League standings. With their defensive options stretched thin, the Red Devils must rely on their squad depth and tactical adaptability to overcome Fulham’s challenge.
The team will also be closely monitoring De Ligt and Yoro’s progress in hopes of a swift recovery. Meanwhile, fans will be looking for an improved attacking display to compensate for the defensive uncertainty.
