Marcus Rashford Transfer: Barcelona Hold Talks Over £40m Move from Manchester United.

Barcelona have reportedly taken a major step in their summer transfer plans by holding direct talks with the agent of Marcus Rashford, the Manchester United forward currently valued at £40 million. According to SPORT, Deco, Barcelona’s sporting director, met with Rashford’s representative in Catalonia on Wednesday morning to explore the possibility of signing the England international during the upcoming transfer window.

The 27-year-old attacker spent the second half of the 2024–25 season on loan at Aston Villa, contributing four goals and six assists in 17 appearances under Unai Emery. Despite Rashford’s productive spell at Villa Park, the Midlands club is reportedly unlikely to trigger the £40m purchase clause due to their failure to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Barcelona: Rashford A Transfer Priority Amid Financial Caution

With Rashford’s long-term future at Old Trafford uncertain and his relationship with Man United manager Ruben Amorim believed to be strained, Barcelona are now emerging as strong contenders for his signature. The La Liga giants have already shown interest in bolstering their attacking options this summer, and Rashford appears to be among their top targets alongside Liverpool winger Luis Díaz.

Speaking to RAC1, Deco confirmed interest in both players, stating: “We like Luis [Díaz], we like Marcus [Rashford], and we like other players. When we go to the market, there are names that we know could improve the team.”

Barca manager Hansi Flick also weighed in when asked about the club’s winger search: “I don’t want to speak on players not in my team, but they are both fantastic players. We’ll see what happens.”

While Rashford is reportedly open to a move to Spain—Barcelona being his “dream club”—the financial implications of a £40m deal may prove difficult for the Catalans. Sources suggest Barca may propose a loan deal with an obligation or option to buy in 2026, aligning with the club’s current financial strategy.

Manchester United’s Stance and Rashford’s Future

Manchester United are understood to be keen on selling Rashford this summer to raise funds for their own squad rebuild. With over 400 appearances, 138 goals, and 77 assists in a United shirt, Rashford remains a high-profile asset, despite a recent dip in form and internal disputes.

Although some reports suggest Rashford could be reintegrated into Amorim’s squad next season, sources close to the club indicate that their fractured relationship—especially during the first half of the 2024–25 campaign—makes such a reunion highly unlikely.

Rashford to Barcelona—Can the Deal Happen?

With Rashford’s agent already in contact with Deco and support for the deal coming from both Flick and senior club officials, Barcelona’s interest is very real. However, the club’s financial constraints could complicate a permanent transfer this summer. A creative loan structure could be the solution, paving the way for Rashford to realize his dream move while allowing Barcelona to manage costs responsibly.

As negotiations continue, all eyes will be on Camp Nou and Old Trafford to see whether one of this summer’s biggest transfer stories will come to fruition.
