Arsenal Break Tradition as Leandro Trossard Enters Contract Talks for 2029 Extension.

Arsenal have reportedly opened discussions with Leandro Trossard over a potential new long-term contract at the Emirates Stadium, a move that could see the Gunners break away from their conventional approach to veteran players. According to reports, the North London club is considering offering Trossard a contract extension that would keep him at the club until the end of the 2028-29 season, despite his current deal expiring in just over a year.

At 30 years old, Trossard is approaching the age where Arsenal typically hesitate to hand out lengthy extensions. However, the Belgian international has proven to be a crucial asset for Mikel Arteta this season, featuring in an impressive 53 games across all competitions, contributing 10 goals and 8 assists. His availability and consistent fitness levels have reportedly impressed the Arsenal hierarchy, leading to the decision to open contract talks.

Arsenal to Defy Transfer Norms with Trossard’s 2029 Contract Offer?

While Arsenal are known for exercising caution when offering long-term deals to players over 30, the decision to open talks with Trossard is seen as a significant shift in policy. The former Brighton & Hove Albion forward has a clause in his current contract allowing for a one-year extension until 2027. However, Arsenal’s proposed new terms would extend his stay by an additional two years, keeping him at the club until 2029.

Reports indicate that sporting director Andrea Berta is actively involved in these negotiations as he faces a crucial summer of contract renewals and potential exits. Trossard’s situation is just one of several ongoing discussions, with Arsenal also assessing the futures of key players like Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, William Saliba, and Gabriel Magalhaes.

Will Arsenal Secure Trossard’s Future Amid Transfer Speculation?

Despite Trossard’s significant contributions this season, there remains speculation surrounding his long-term future at the Emirates. The Belgian winger has been linked with a potential move to the Saudi Pro League, where lucrative offers have lured several top players in recent transfer windows.

However, Arsenal’s willingness to negotiate a new contract may indicate that they view Trossard as a valuable squad player moving forward, particularly given his versatility across the front line. Additionally, with Thomas Partey also in talks for a contract extension, Arsenal appear focused on maintaining a stable core of experienced players heading into the 2025-26 season.

Arsenal Eye New Left-Winger Despite Trossard Talks

Regardless of Trossard’s potential contract extension, Arsenal are still expected to target a new left-winger in the upcoming transfer window. The Gunners have been linked with promising young talents such as Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao and Jamie Gittens of Borussia Dortmund, indicating that Arteta is seeking to add fresh attacking options to his squad.

As the summer transfer window approaches, Arsenal’s contract negotiations with Trossard will be closely monitored. Will the Gunners secure the Belgian’s services for another four years, or will they look to cash in on him before his current deal expires?
