Lookman edged out stiff competition from Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, Cote d’Ivoire’s Simon Adingra, Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy, and South Africa’s Ronwen Williams to claim the coveted award.
The 27-year-old attacker’s exceptional performance for both club and country played a significant role in his triumph. Lookman was instrumental in Nigeria’s impressive run to the Africa Cup of Nations final, scoring three goals and providing an assist in seven games.
His success continued with Atalanta, as he led the team to their maiden Europa League title. Lookman’s hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen made him the first African player to achieve this feat in a European final.
