EPL: Man United & Newcastle Battle for Nigerian Star Ademola Lookman
Manchester United are set to face stiff competition from Newcastle United in the race to sign Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman from Atalanta.
Lookman’s future at the Serie A club has been thrown into uncertainty following a public fallout with his manager Gian Piero Gasperini, who criticized his penalty-taking ability after a missed spot-kick in a Champions League defeat to Club Brugge.
The Super Eagles star didn’t hold back, taking to social media to call Gasperini’s comments “deeply disrespectful”, further fueling rumors of a summer exit from Atalanta.
Why Lookman is a Top Transfer Target
Despite the controversy, Lookman has been in sensational form, establishing himself as one of the most lethal attackers in Europe. Since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig in 2022, he has recorded:
- 49 goals and 23 assists in 107 competitive matches
- 17 goals and 7 assists in 29 appearances this season
His standout performances—including a brace in Atalanta’s 5-0 win over Empoli—have put him on the radar of several top clubs.
Man United & Newcastle in Transfer Tug-of-War
According to reports from TEAMtalk, Manchester United are keen to add Lookman to their squad as they look to strengthen their attacking options. However, Newcastle United have also expressed a strong interest, with scouts monitoring his performances closely.
Atalanta are reportedly open to selling the Nigerian international if they receive offers in the region of €65 million (£53.8 million).

While the Premier League remains a likely destination, Lookman is also attracting interest from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), with the French giants considering him as an attacking reinforcement.
Additionally, Juventus and Inter Milan are keeping a close watch, offering the 27-year-old an opportunity to continue his career in Italy.
With several top clubs in pursuit, Lookman’s future is set to be one of the biggest Nigerian football transfer stories of the summer.
