Man City vs. Real Madrid: Club Legend Believes Pep Guardiola’s Team Can Win Champions League Clash if They Avoid Mistakes.

Former Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips asserts that Pep Guardiola’s team can triumph over Real Madrid in Tuesday’s Champions League match, provided they eliminate errors.

The Citizens have committed eight errors leading to goals in the Premier League this season, their highest under Guardiola, and six errors leading to shots on goal during the League Phase of the Champions League.

Man City managed to avoid elimination by defeating Club Brugge 3-1 in their final League Phase match, securing a spot in the playoff round with only 11 points from eight games.

To advance to the last 16, Guardiola’s squad must overcome Champions League holders Real Madrid over two legs, marking their fourth consecutive season facing each other.

Despite Man City’s challenges this season, Real Madrid has also struggled, finishing 11th in the 36-team UCL table, and will visit the Etihad Stadium without five injured defenders.

Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao are out with long-term ACL injuries, while David Alaba, Antonio Rudiger, and Lucas Vazquez are also sidelined, with Vazquez sustaining a muscle injury in Real’s recent 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid.

Wright-Phillips remains optimistic about Tuesday’s match, despite both teams’ underwhelming seasons, telling Sports Mole: “It’ll still be a big game and exciting. Vinicius Junior won’t fear Kyle Walker, and Real Madrid will miss key players like Carvajal and Rudiger.”

He added, “I see it being a high-scoring game, and if City cut out the mistakes, I believe they can win the tie.”

Man City, who recently beat Leyton Orient 2-1 in the FA Cup fourth round, have been knocked out by Real Madrid three times in the Champions League knockout stages, more than any other team, despite losing only three of their 12 encounters with Los Blancos (W4 D5).

However, Man City fans can take solace in the fact that Real Madrid’s 25% win rate against the Citizens is their lowest against any opponent in European Cup/Champions League history.
